What techniques are used?
Most clients don't care as long as "it works" but for those who want to know more here it is.
Ian trained first as a "Humanistic Counsellor" and later as a as a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist. He adopts a style to suit the needs of the client. He may ask you about dreams. He may ask you what it is you want from your counselling and be "solution focussed" at times. He may ask you about your thinking patterns of behaviour that are causing difficulties "CBT" Ian may explore with you the way you relate in the therapy "Psychodynamic".
He may suggest that you say what ever comes into your head Free Association" You will be sitting in a chair when you first attend but later you may wish to use the "analytical couch".
The most significant thing about Ian is that he does not believe that one size fits all.
